Cuisine American
- 2 cups 250g all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- 3/4 cup whole milk plus extra if needed
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (Tip: Grating the butter works great, too!)
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
Pour in the milk and gently stir until a sticky dough forms. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be thick but not dry. Add a tablespoon more milk if needed.
Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on the tops and edges.
Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter, jam, or as a side to your favorite meal!
